FFF 50/50 Raffle

Over the summer FFF held a 50/50 Raffle fundraiser in which the winner and FFF each received half of the money raised. FFF volunteers sold tickets for $3 each. The winner was John Hansley, who purchased his tickets from volunteer Shirl. John is the owner of Mayberry Restaurant on Country Club Road. John made a generous donation back to FFF. Thanks to all the raffle participants for your support of FFF!

Volunteer Highlight: Robin F.

Forgotten Felines of Forsyth is pleased to welcome a new member to our board, Robin. Robin has been an active volunteer with FFF since 2005, and she is dedicated to our mission of humanely reducing the feral and stray cat population of the Forsyth county area.

Robin with houses on trailer copy2.jpg (33781 bytes)Robin routinely participates in FFF fundraisers such as gift wraps, bake sales, and she organized our fall yard sale fundraiser. She contributes her time and efforts for various needs such as delivering feral cat houses and building steps for the FFF feral cat holding barn. Robin even came to the rescue of one of our colony members in the fall of 2008. The male cat, now named Melvin, had been TNR'd thanks to FFF. One day his colony caretaker discovered that he had climbed a huge poplar tree and became stuck at a point some 30 feet up. The caretaker tried getting help from the local fire department to no avail. She and her husband also constructed a ramp and tried raising a basket (with tuna) to the cat but it would not come down. The poor cat was stuck in the tree for two days, and meowed so much that he lost his voice. Having been alerted to the situation by the colony caretaker, Robin borrowed a 40-foot ladder, drove it 40 miles to the colony location, and climbed the ladder and carried the cat down to safety - despite her fear of heights! The colony caretaker brought Melvin into her home to be a house cat so he could not get into any more predicaments, and he is doing wonderfully. RobinFpic1 copy.jpg (42829 bytes)

Robin works at Dairy Fresh, LLC in Winston-Salem, where she runs the warehouse and is responsible for purchasing all of the packaging and ingredients for milk, fruit drink, and ice cream. In addition to her work with FFF,  she also volunteers with other non-profit organizations, including AARF (Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation), Habitat for Humanity, the MS Society, and Meals on Wheels. She has rescued many cats to be part of her own animal family and is always willing to help animals in need whenever she can.

RobinFpic2 copy.jpg (40862 bytes)Robin's goal as a volunteer for FFF is to help as many unwanted kitties in the community get spayed or neutered and receive the needed vaccinations as possible. She hopes that the volunteer base will grow and that Forgotten Felines of Forsyth will become better known in the community.

Robin is a firm believer that every stray animal we see is the community's problem, not just an individual's problem. She feels that we, as a community, should step up and do what we can to eradicate the problem of animal homelessness through spay/neuter/vaccination programs such as FFF.
